How Self-Dispatch Technology Promotes Road Safety

Are you a Carrier that runs all your operations? Check this out, you sure will love self-dispatch.

On October 27, 2010, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) enacted a law prohibiting commercial vehicle drivers from texting while driving. Under this law, simply reading a text message is also prohibited as it is considered texting, taking your eyes off the road. This law is to prevent road accidents due to distracted driving. Keeping your eyes off the road for a few seconds may lead to accidents. Distracted truck drivers are at greater risk of causing fatal collisions. Although receiving phone calls from hands-free cell phones is not provided by law, truck drivers should maintain focus and relax while driving.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "Every day about 8 people in the United States are killed in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver”. And with that being said, what could be the things that distract drivers and how can we avoid them?

There are 3 Main types of Distraction

Visual- taking your eyes off the road (texting, talking on a cellphone, accessing the navigation system, emailing)

Manual-taking your hands off the wheel (eating, texting, emailing, adjusting mirrors, switching music)

Cognitive- taking your mind off driving. Truck drivers, especially owner-operators, find it difficult not to access applications related to their work. Finding an application that would reduce distracted driving is necessary.

While Fleet management systems and dispatching units are not prohibited under FMCSA Distracted driving law, Inmay Inc keeps up with its commitment to carrier safety and compliance with FMCSA. Reducing access to phones or any gadgets while driving will help them stay alert and will reduce the risk of getting into a vehicle crash. Inmay Inc’s dispatch technology gives every carrier/driver the ability to book ahead, self-dispatch, and update load status in a few seconds.

While we help shippers with capacity, truck drivers’ safety is our top priority. Once the load is assigned, no admin work is needed. Drivers do not need to be on their cell phones (even if it’s from a hands-free headset) to consistently provide shippers/brokers with updates. With just one tap, the load status can be updated, shippers can see the movement of the load. And in less than 5 seconds loads assigned by brokers or shippers can be accepted and/or rejected.

Our technology is also compliant with FMCSA regulations, which meant that our network of carriers and brokers underwent safety checks. Inmay is committed to your safety.
